  3. ECPage, a DOS page printing program for HP Laserjets

  6. ECPage is a form (page) design program that is very easy
  7. to use, so easy that a novice can be using it to create
  8. forms within minutes.  On-Line help is just a [F1]
  9. keystroke away at any point in the program.  Despite it's
  10. simplicity however, users will find that they can create forms of
  11. great complexity.  The printed output rivals that of 'Desktop
  12. Publishing' type programs costing hundreds of dollars.

  14. Home users, schools, organizations, offices, government agencies
  15. and programmers will all find a place for this fast and easy
  16. to use page design program.  Notices, bulletins, signs,
  17. menu's, announcements, invitations, business forms and other
  18. forms or page designs can be quickly designed and printed, with
  19. 'Desktop Publishing' quality, to either paper or disk.

  21. ECPage uses the scalable fonts within the Hewlett Packard
  22. Laserjet model 3, 4L or 4 in point sizes from 1.01 - 99.99
  23. points.  Limited font support is available for users with a
  24. Hewlett Packard Laserjet 2P & 2D or true PCL4/5 clone.

  26. Whether you need a quick & dirty 'For Sale' sign or a complex
  27. form, ECPage can handle it.

  29. FEATURES

  31. With ECPage text lines can be printed right, left or
  32. center justified using scalable proportional fonts from
  33. 1.01-99.99 points on the supported Laserjet printers. Further
  34. enhancements allow PCL lines and boxes - shaded and/or
  35. filled in with gray scale/patterns - to be used.  Scaled
  36. 'Check-Off' boxes can be created to size match the font used.

  38. ECPage allows design elements to be placed with pin point
  39. accuracy anywhere on a page, including over other
  40. elements, something few word processing programs can do.
  41.  
  42. ECPage has the ability to print it's output, in portrait
  43. or landscape orientation, to a Laserjet or to a diskfile.
  44. The relatively small diskfile, in ASCII format, contains the full
  45. page formatting in PCL code.  With a COPY /B to a supported
  46. Laserjet 3 or 4 printer the page is quickly printed, exactly as
  47. created, complete with the proportional fonts.   If you are
  48. using LJKIT1 functions with your Clarion 2.1 reports, ECPAGE
  49. can write to disk the report detail code to place the ECPAGE
  50. design into a CLarion 2.1 report procedure.

  52. Note: these disk files may be of interest to programmers
  53. or advanced users as they can be downloaded onto a Laserjet as
  54. a 'Macro' overlay and then printed out when 'filled in' from a
  55. database report.  The original version of ECPage was
  56. developed in-house just for this purpose.  Other users may
  57. create or duplicate many of their business forms and store
  58. them on disk.  Just COPY /B the filename to a Laserjet model 3 or
  59. 4 from a batch file, DOS command line or within a program for a
  60. new blank form.  Changes are easily made without making obsolete
  61. a costly paper forms inventory.

  63. REGISTRATION
  64.  
  65. ECPage is a copy-righted program, not released to the
  66. public domain, and requires a nominal single user
  67. registration fee of $16.  Low cost site and enterprise
  68. licenses can be obtained.

  70. The shareware version is completely functional - not limited in
  71. any way.  A trial period is permitted before registration.

  73. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  74.  
  75. ECPage is a DOS 3+ program that will run on any XT, AT, clone
  76. or PS/x system.  A faster CPU will result in better
  77. processing speed.  A color EGA/VGA monitor is recommended,
  78. but not required.  A hard drive with 2+ MB available and
  79. system RAM of 640KB are needed.  A Hewlett Packard Laserjet
  80. model 3, 4L or 4 printer is needed although program can be used
  81. with a LJ2P/D or clone.  No added printer memory is needed.  May
  82. be run in Windows 3.1 as a DOS program - full screen.

  84. LASERJET MODEL 2 AND CLONES
  85.  
  86. Only limited font support is available for users with a
  87. Laserjet Model 2P/D or true clones.  A clone should
  88. support font 90 degree rotation and offer full PCL 4 or 5
  89. emulation.  The only scalable font support ECPage users with a
  90. Laserjet 2P/D or clone will have are those available in
  91. Hewlett Packard's "Type Director" scalable soft fonts,
  92. limited to those in 'DECORATIVE WORDS 1, CGTIMES and
  93. UNIVERS.  These soft fonts must be obtained from Hewlett
  94. Packard as no fonts are contained in this program.  Create them
  95. with Type Director and download in desired type face and point
  96. size to the printer for use.

  98. Limited font cartridge support is also available for the
  99. proportional non-scalable fonts within Pacific Data Products '25
  100. in 1' cartridge - #CF120, or most of those in Hewlett Packard's
  101. Times/Helv Z1A and S2. Other cartridges may or may not offer
  102. satisfactory font justification.

  109. UPGRADE POLICY
  110.  
  111. Registered users are allowed to upgrade at no added cost when
  112. future versions are released.

  114. WARRANTY
  115.  
  116. There is NO warranty made by the author.  During the trial
  117. evaluation period you can determine if ECPage will or will not
  118. work for your purpose.  The distribution method and low
  119. registration fee reflects the lack of any warranty for ECPage.
  120. The author will not be responsible for damages, of any nature,
  121. resulting from the use, or inability to use, the software.

  135. Unarchive the program files with: PKUNZIP ECPAGE2

  137. ECPage is started by typing the command: ECPAGE within the
  138. \ECPAGE directory.

  140. PKUNZIP V1.1 or later is needed to unarchive these files.  It is widely
  141. available as a 'Shareware' type program. (From PKWARE).  Other UnZIPping
  142. utilities may also be used, such as UNZIP.

  145. YOU SHOULD KNOW
  146.  
  147. 'Truetype' or 'Postscript' fonts are not currently supported in
  148. this release, nor is the import of .PCX files.
  149.  
  150. ECPage is not a 'WYSIWYG' (What you see is what you get) program.
  151. Rather, the form elements are laid out in row/column positions.  While
  152. it is easy to use, very complex forms will require time to lay
  153. them out.  The results are worth it.
